SAD Manifesto for 2012 Elections

 

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today released its manifesto, promising something for everybody. Specially targeting the youth, unemployed, weaker sections and women, the manifesto promises to continue with the welfare schemes. “The objective is to ensure that the benefits reach the needy and promises don’t remain on paper”, said SAD president Sukhbir Badal. In 2007 Manifesto SAD promised few items and some of them were fulfilled and but others not. Here are key points from 2012 Manifesto.

  • Free laptops for school students        
  • Free 5-marla plots to landless poor
  • 10 lakh jobs, 2 lakh in govt sector
  • Mohali, Amritsar to be made IT hubs


  • Lokayukta to be strengthened
  • Greenfield International Airport at Macchiwara (Ludhiana), Sahnewal airport to be expanded and operationalised
  • Civic amenities in all towns in three years
  • Ludhiana metro in next five years 
  • Octroi on petrol/diesel to be rationalised 
  • Free cycles also for Class IX and X girls 
  • Free primary health care to accident victims
  • Cancer Relief Fund sum to be doubled
  • Agro-Industry SEZ in the border belt
  • Separate Environment Ministry
  • Boost to organic farming, bio-technology
  • State to be covered under RO system
  • Sick small and medium industry to be revived through special incentives
  • Under Sri Guru Hargobind Sports Scholarship, every district to have sports stadium of international standards
  • International Trade Fair centers at Ludhiana and Mohali
  • Mohali, Ludhiana, Amritsar to have International convention centres
  • Malwa to be developed as textile hub; Jalandhar to be developed as international sports hub
  • All services to go online in three years
  • Farmers with five acres (or less) to be given tube well connections in a year
  • Canal irrigation system to be upgraded and canals repaired; more effective crop insurance scheme
  • Plan to tame Ghaggar 
  • Free gas connections for BPL families
  • Pension amount for senior citizens, widows and physically challenged to be increased 
  • Free domestic power up to 250 units to Dalits and BCs
  • Memorial on freedom movement in Doaba 
  • Dedicated NRI courts; steps against travel agents to stop harassment of NRIs and their family members
  • Party to fight for one rank, one pension for ex-servicemen; free education to their wards 
  • Vat on CSD items to go
